About Janesville Brick
Janesville Brick has proudly served the construction industry across Southern Wisconsin for nearly 80 years. Located at 1801 West Court Street, the company stands on historic ground—formerly the site of Janesville Brick Works, where face brick was manufactured from 1906 through the mid-1930s.
The original operation was founded by Frederick and Edward Freeze, brothers from Monroe, Wisconsin, who launched Janesville Brick Works at the peak of Wisconsin’s brickmaking era. After manufacturing ceased in the 1930s, the business changed hands in 1946, when B.J. Wortmann purchased it from the Freeze brothers and renamed it Janesville Brick & Fuel Yards. Wortmann operated the company until 1976, when it was acquired by Duke Kelly.
Under Duke’s leadership, Janesville Brick evolved into a trusted regional supplier. In 1998, the company expanded by acquiring the former Polyock Block Co. in Zenda, Wisconsin—now known as Lakes Brick & Block—which manufactures high-quality concrete block and distributes premium clay brick. Together, these two companies form a solid foundation of masonry expertise across the region.
Today, Janesville Brick remains a family-run business. Dan Kelly, Duke’s son, and his wife Mary Kelly now lead the company, carrying forward its legacy with the same commitment to quality, integrity, and customer service that has defined it for generations.
